Hey all,
So one thing that we have been talking about in my health communications class is using the "wrong reason" to motivate ppl to about something, particularly a health related topic. For example, if you read the story about my nephew Isaiah below, you'd see that the way I got him to drink his milk. I promised that he would (more or less) become bigger. That is the secondary/superficial reason to get him to drink his milk. The true/primary reason would be to build healthy bones, which may or may not lead to long bones.
So, my question to you is: Have you ever convinced someone to do something for the wrong reason? Health related or not.
I would be interested to read any responses.

lol... I don't actually remember if I actually said anything to anyone for the "wrong reason" (but I'm sure I have, I just don't remember what)...
but what stands out for me are things that my mom have said to my brother and I. I think Asian parents are notorious for saying such "lies" - that benefit their children. =P
One example is at the dinner table, we always had to finish EVERYTHING in our bowl... if we don't finish the rice, for example, my mom would say to my brother and I that our future spouses would have many acne scars or marks directly related to how many "pieces" of rice we left behind. I never believed her, but I finished my food anyway cause she would get mad and make us finish regardless.
Another example...there was this very bitter vegetable (that both my brother and I despised for a while) that she put in rice soup for dinner and she said that it would make our skin glow and not have acne etc... whether that is true or not, I'm not sure.
So basically she would say whatever to make us finish our food...cause obviously we were growing children and she wanted us to be tall and healthy...which we are so that worked. =)
